DAY 3 OF 6

Think Like Jesus

Words have power if we believe them and let them enter our hearts. Proverbs 4:23 says, ‘out of the heart flow the issues of life’. What are the words that you call yourself, or believe about who you are? Inadequate? A failure? Do you struggle with imposter syndrome?  Or do you struggle with pride?  So often there is an unchecked running monologue on the inside of our minds, repeating things that people have said about us that have hurt us, or things that we repeat internally about ourselves, but when you are thinking like Jesus, how could any of these negative labels be true?  He adores you!  He knew you before you were even formed in the womb, and all the days of your life were written in his book.  Romans 8:38-39 tells us that there is NOTHING that can separate us from the love of God.

So, choose the words you are going to believe about yourself – is it God’s word, or past negative prescriptions that have no authority over you in God? If we humble ourselves before God and submit to his Word, he will raise us up and give us a core strength in him that can withstand every accusation or label that has come against us, as we are deeply rooted in him.

This is a fascinating look into self-esteem, an area so many of us struggle with.  Low self-esteem can be crippling psychologically. Jesus was secure in who he was in God and so could humble himself and serve God and others. John 13:3-15 also illustrates this. Jesus, fully knowing that he was God in the flesh, humbled himself and served the disciples by washing their feet.

While we are only human, we are sons and daughters of God, princes, and princesses in the kingdom, passionately loved by our Father. Knowing this we can serve God and lovingly serve each other, just like Jesus.

Questions:

1. Deep down who do you believe you are?  Are you believing God’s Word or maybe a critical parent or someone from your past?

2. Write down any negative damaging words you’ve believed about yourself and take them to the cross. Then write what God says about you and believe Him.
