To Know and to Experience GodSample
GOD’S LEADING THROUGH HIS WORDS
Do you remember what was the first thing God did during the creation of the world as written in the Book of Genesis? Genesis 1:3 mentions, Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. Why did it happen? Because at that time, darkness covered the earth. And why is it that darkness covers the earth?
Before everything in this world was created, some of God’s angels rebelled against God and as the result, those rebellious angels were thrown out from heaven, and they built the kingdom of darkness to compete God’s kingdom. And these rebellious angels tried to influence humans to rebel against God, not obeying God’s will.
All of us would agree that only light can drive out the darkness. When the electricity suddenly cuts off at home, what do we usually do? Most of us would search for a handphone to turn on the torch, or if you don’t have one, you will search for a candle or lighter. Walking in the darkness could cause us to stumble and it’s dangerous for us. And it goes the same to our life on earth, where darkness covers the world we live in, and therefore the light of God is required to guide our path.
The Word of God is the light that enlightens our life journey. The word of God is God’s own words, telling us of God’s will and there is power in the word that God speaks.
Do you remember that in the book of Genesis, everything that was created by the words that come from God? God’s word is able to create something from Nothing.
Too bad, we found that there are many people who call themselves Christians, called themselves to believe in God and go to church every Sunday, yet they do not walk according to the way God’s want as written in the Bible. They are still leaving in the darkness. Beloved, it is not enough just for us to confess with our mouth that we believe in God, but we need to meditate, speak up and share His Words.
DISCUSSIONS
Let us learn, what can we get when we walk our daily life according to the Word of God?
1. The status as Child of God who has the right to receive and enjoy God’s promises and God’s inheritance (Romans 8:12-17)
If we are the children of God and call Him Abba Father, we should resemble God our father. And when we resemble our heavenly father, we would live like Jesus lives when Jesus was living on the earth. We have been redeemed fully by Jesus, all kinds of debts because of sins have been paid fully by the blood of Jesus. And we owe God something, do you know what is that? To live a life guided by His spirit, not according to human’s flesh desire. Living by the spirit will cause us to be passionate to do the Word of God. Let the status as Son of God that we received not only making us accepting Jesus as our God and savior, but also cause us to be passionately activating the word of God in our life. As the sons of God, we have the right to receive all promises God has prepared for us, to inherit all that heaven has in our life.
2. Successful and prosperous (Joshua 1:8, Psalm 1:1-3)
Who doesn’t want to be successful and prosperous? I guess no one would say no to this. But do the people who do not know God also seem to be successful and prosperous too? Yes, that’s right but in different areas of life. Humans tend to measure success and prosperity as what they have physically like how much money you have, what car you drive, what is your house like, how do you look like. The Bible measures success not merely physical matters, but also other unseen matters. Blessings are not only measured by the physical entity but also the spiritual and emotional entity. God reminded Joshua to live by the word of God because victory comes from God. It is proven, that when we follow the example of Joshua to conquer the Promised Land, wholeheartedly following the Word of God and God will make your journey successful and prosperous.
3. Living victoriously (Matthew 4:1-11)
When we decided to live following the leading of the Holy Spirit, by doing the will of God, the devil won’t stay quiet. The devil will play his role to pull us back into our old life (when we did not know God) or entice our flesh desire. Jesus experienced the temptation when he lived on earth. And what did Jesus do? Jesus used His powerful weapon, that is the word of God to defeat the devil. The same thing goes with us. When our mind is tempted by the devil with worldly desires, we need to use the correct weapon: The Word of God. The word of God will set us free from devils’ trap and set us free from the snare of the enemy.
4. Promotion from God (Acts 13:22)
Who is David? David was just a simple shepherd, a young boy, with a small size body and red cheeks. David had not been to any war before. In the old times, someone’s ability was measured by their performance in the battle. But God is able to change the young and inexperienced David into a gallant hero and ready to be promoted to become the future king.
Sounds weird, isn’t’ it? Remember that for God nothing is impossible. The key is that David does the will of God in his time. David receives God’s favor. Do not look at who you are, but look at who walks with you, the power of the word of God that you put into practice is with you. It’s the key to us getting favor from God and receive promotion from God.
Read Malachi 3:18, the person who serves the Lord is the one who does God’s word.
