One of the best ways to be encouraged in our faith is when we have friends who love God. We're able to find things we have in common, and also discover what makes us different from one another. But when you meet someone who is true to themselves, despite what may be trending or who may be asking them to change, you have to ask yourself . . . why? What makes someone authentic in that way, where they trust their sense of self above the validation of others?
In the Bible, there is a letter Paul (one of the first leaders of the church) wrote to Philemon. In this letter, Paul encourages Philemon simply because he lived his faith authentically. Philemon lived to tell others about the love of Jesus. Paul recognized Philemon and praised him for how he lived his life. May we learn from the life of Philemon to share the love of Jesus with others.
Who could you encourage today simply by being an authentic person?
