Catechism: Social Media & My Mission

DAY 1 OF 3

What makes you who you are: what you say, or what you do? Most of us would agree our actions prove our identity. We can say whatever we want, but what we choose to do is the most genuine reflection of who we truly are.

If we say we love Jesus and say we believe God’s Word, our choices and actions should reflect those truths. No amount of Bible reading or spiritual talk can replace living the way Jesus lived: loving, serving, and sacrificing for others.

Social media gives us a platform to share our words with the world, but without offline actions, those words are meaningless. So we have to ask ourselves: Is what I say, post, and share consistent with what I actually do?

Read James 1:22-27

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where are some areas where the world needs actions, not just empty words? How can you be part of the solution now, not just when you’re older?
  2. While it’s tempting to read this passage and call out hypocrisy in other people, we have to look inward before we look out to others. In what ways have you been guilty of talking about Jesus but not walking like him? Confess this to God and receive his forgiveness. Thank him for empowering you to glorify him with your words and actions.
