When the Battle Feels Too BigSample
“Oh God, the battle belongs to You
And every fear I lay at Your feet
I'll sing through the night
Oh God, the battle belongs to You”
What do we do when the battle feels impossible?
The last two days we tackled what to do when faced with a battle and then how to keep our eyes focused on God in the midst of it. However, one final question remains: what do we do when we are in the battle, keeping our eyes on God, but it still feels so impossible?
There King Jehoshaphat stood in front of the courtyard, calling out to the Father. He was desperate and scared, yet He continued to speak to the Lord. Then the Spirit of the Lord came on Jahaziel, a man in the courtyard. Jahaziel spoke the words of the Lord, encouraging them and directing them on what to do in the midst of this battle. “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.”
What an incredible message of provision from the Lord in the people of Israel’s time of need. Although we may not frequently partake in military combat today, the Lord is still the same as He was then. He cares about your battle with addiction or sin or mental illness or grief or whatever else you face just as much as He did with King Jehoshaphat’s battle against the Moabites and Ammonites. As “Battle Belongs” says, you can lay your fears at His feet. This battle belongs to Him now, not you
When the Lord finally delivered Judah from their battle, they responded with praise and worship. They recognized His great power and responded with love and adoration. When the battle belongs to Him, it’s impossible not to respond with gratitude and praise.
So, what should you do when the battle you are facing is too big for you?
1. Seek the help of the Lord first
2. Ask Him to focus your eyes on what He has done before
3. Trust that the battle belongs to Him
4. Praise the Lord with song and thanksgiving
5. When it’s hard to remember God’s sovereignty, listen to “Battle Belongs” and remember the truth!!
