Through the Bible: Ruth

DAY 3 OF 3

Righteousness

“So I thought I would tell you of it and say, ‘Buy it in the presence of those sitting here and in the presence of the elders of my people.’ If you will redeem it, redeem it. But if you will not, tell me, that I may know, for there is no one besides you to redeem it, and I come after you.” And he said, “I will redeem it.” Then Boaz said, “The day you buy the field from the hand of Naomi, you also acquire Ruth the Moabite, the widow of the dead, in order to perpetuate the name of the dead in his inheritance.”
Ruth 4:4-5, (ESV)

In the book of Ruth, we can clearly tell Naomi’s first choice for Ruth is Boaz. However, Boaz didn’t take Ruth right away when she approached him, as he wasn’t the one to have the first right. According to the Jewish laws, another relative had the first right to redeem Naomi’s land and Ruth. Therefore, Boaz asked him for the redemption first.  Boaz demonstrated his righteous, faithful and merciful character fully in this redemption process. Ruth ended up getting married to Boaz, and they became the great-grandparents of King David. Our God is a loving God, He will definitely pour out His abundant blessings to you and your descendants when you put your trust in Him.

Prayer:

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your word today. Please teach us not to forget Your teaching even when we face worldly temptations.  May You guide us to be righteous, faithful and merciful Christians all the time. Amen!

Day 2

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Ruth

The story of Ruth served as a light in the dark times of Judges. Naomi selflessly put aside her needs and planned for Ruth’s future. Ruth, however, put her destiny at stake by choosing commitment over comfort. And last, Boaz faithfully rescued these two utterly defenseless widows. These characters together reflect God’s perpetual faithfulness to His people, encouraging us to always trust in Him regardless of the circumstances.
