In My Head: A 5-Day Devotional by Grace GraberSample
Day Two: Darkness
“It’s breeding in the darkness. You can’t pretend you don’t notice.”
When I wrote “Darkness” the words came naturally to me. This song speaks of how keeping things hidden in the dark can leave one feeling alone, and misunderstood. The best thing we can do is find a safe and secure place to share our innermost thoughts and fears, to find support and validation.
The solution to darkness is to expose it to the light. It was into the void and darkness that God declared “let there be light.” Today, it is into our hearts that this same Creator desires to declare light as well.
“For God, who said, ‘Let there be light in the darkness,’ has made this light shine in our hearts so we could know the glory of God that is seen in the face of Jesus Christ.” 2 Corinthians 4:6
For me, darkness was personal and deep; I felt alone, hurt, and in emotional pain. Yet, the same power that created light, declared light into my life in a deep and personal way. I felt loved, cared for, and spiritually free, all because of what Jesus did for me. Healing not only took place when I allowed God to shine in my heart, but there was healing in the words of confession and honesty with friends and confidants in my life.
“Make this your common practice: Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you can live together whole and healed.” James 5:16
Whatever darkness you may be holding onto, remember that you are not alone; you have a God who loves you, and he has people who are ready to love you as well. Sometimes God’s light comes from the ears and counsel of others, where we find healing for our souls.
