Good Is the Enemy of Great

DAY 7 OF 7

Compete with Horses

Helen Keller said, ‘Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadows. It's what the sunflowers do’. In corporate life, wisdom is required to make every small or big decision. With God-given wisdom (Jas 1:5), we should outrun the tough business challenges / horses we face every day at our workplace.

One man who outran horses in the Bible was Elijah. Then the Lord gave special strength to Elijah. He tucked his cloak into his belt and ran ahead of Ahab’s chariot all the way to the entrance of Jezreel - I Kgs 18:46, NLT. Also, we read in Jas 5:17 (NLT) that Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.

I had a great experience working as a vice president for one of the world’s best investment banks in Bengaluru. But, I realised it was time to move on. One day, in 2016, I saw an ad for Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at another multinational bank. Although information security was one of my primary areas of interest, I had never held a CISO position till then. I trusted in the Lord with all my heart (Pro 3:5, 6) just as Elijah did and applied for it.

Now, I trust God with all my heart for even the tiniest tasks at work and God has kept me in competition with the corporate horses of today. As I trust only in Him, He has raised me so much that today a CISO reports to me.

Our business and career would prosper when we also trust in God and completely depend on His wisdom for every single decision in our tasks and projects. The business world is unforgiving to corporate leaders. But when we look to God every day, like Elijah, we can beat chariots of kings drawn by royal horses, that makes us great by God’s special strength.

Father, we acknowledge You in all our ways and trust You completely to make our ways prosper. Amen

About this Plan

Good Is the Enemy of Great

We are prone to be satisfied with good quality. But it is not enough to be good; we are called for greatness. Are we just doing the bare minimum or are we willing to go the extra mile? Do we focus on achieving a superlative level of quality that is never compromised? Patrick Pitchappa teaches us how to go from ‘good' to 'great’ with God’s help.
