Prayer As Incense

I don’t know about you, but when I hear the stories of war and terror on the evening news, I feel powerless sitting at home on the lounge. We know that God’s heart is to reach out to the suffering, but most of us are not international diplomats, politicians, or war strategists. How are we to do anything about it? 

It’s here that we need to be reminded of a powerful weapon at our disposal. The scriptures tell us that behind the scenes of earthly conflict, there is a spiritual battle going on that requires spiritual weapons to overcome. That weapon is prayer. Like the incense depicted in Revelation 8, our prayers may feel like mere wisps of smoke wafting up to heaven, but they return as thunder and lightning, having a powerful impact on the earth. 

So next time you hear a tragic news report, say a word of prayer. Every time you see evil on the screen, send up the incense. We need to understand the power of the weapon we’ve been given. We need to know that even from the safety of our lounge room, we can make a difference.
