90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
Being accountable to others and God for your actions is all about doing the next right thing you know you ought to do. Be careful not to believe you have beaten this addiction. When we weaken our defenses, the wolf sneaks back in. I was 6 years into recovery when I had an unexpected slip that could have cost me much more than just my pride–it could have cost me my ministry.
Temptation never ends. It never does. And while temptation is not a sin, acting on your temptation is. The enemy is clever. He will use what he knows works to break you down. That is why having solid accountability in your life is a non-negotiable, as is having a trusting relationship with Jesus Christ. Those two things will be your life preserver when temptation comes.
It is not if you will slip, but when. That’s the nature of addiction. It’s a process. How you choose to respond when you slip is what will make the difference between it being a “slip” or you returning to your addiction. Have grace for yourself. Embrace authenticity. Seek His face.
What has been your greatest takeaway about accountability? What have you learned that you didn’t know or fully grasp before now? How do you plan to use what you have learned day to day?
