What if it's true?

DAY 33 OF 47

SUNDAY (Rest, Catch Up, and Next Week's Overview)

All of this week's verses are repeated again today in case you missed any of them.

Four questions to engage with each day:

What stood out to me in today’s passage?

What does it mean or tell me about Jesus?

What does it say to me about how I view myself?

What choice is God placing before me today in response?

Bible Project video about the book of John (part 2)

And if you haven’t had a chance to watch the Bible Project video, John Part 2, try to  take a few minutes to watch it now. You can refer to it any time as you read over these next weeks.

Week 6 Overview (John 15:28 - 18:40)

This week takes us from the upper room and the Passover meal to just before Jesus is to be crucified. Pay close attention to the things Jesus wants His disciples to remember, even though He knows what it coming.

Jesus tells these dear friends they will be hated because of Him just as He was hated. But He gives them the hope of the Holy Spirit at work in them, guiding them and glorifying Him and the Father. He talks of their sorrow turning to joy as they ask and receive from the Father. I can’t imagine how confusing all of this was for them to hear. They were used to Jesus' parables and stories He shared to make a point, but this was different. He wasn’t using figures of speech any longer. This was real.

Then Jesus lifted His eyes to heaven, and He prayed this beautiful priestly prayer to His Father. I love chapter 17 of John because as Jesus is praying for His disciples, He is praying for us as well. Read this prayer slowly. Take in all that Jesus is asking for them and for you. Just as He interceded in that prayer, He stands at the right hand of God interceding for you right now. How amazing is that!

When He finished the prayer, they all went out across the Kidron Valley to the garden where they often went to pray. It will now become the place where Jesus is betrayed by Judas, arrested, and taken to stand before the high priest. Now He is abandoned, bound, falsely accused, denied by Peter, and taken before Pilate. As you read through this account, put yourself in these places. Think about what might have been going through the minds of each person who witnessed these events.

About this Plan

What if it's true?

Does God exist? Two thousand years ago, an eyewitness named John saw the miracles, the crucifixion, and the resurrection of a man he concluded was the Son of God. John recorded what he saw as evidence, so future generations could reach the same conclusion. So, what if Jesus really is the Son of God? Take time during Lent to read John's account and ask yourself, "What if it's true?"
