 <div class="label">21</div><div class="p"> 1Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpeh, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife. 2And the people came to the house of God, and abode there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore; 3and said, O LORD God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to day one tribe lacking in Israel? 4And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. 5And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up with the congregation unto the LORD? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up to the LORD to Mizpeh, saying, He shall surely be put to death. 6And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day. 7How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by the LORD that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?</div><div class="p"> 8And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up to Mizpeh to the LORD? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly. 9For the people were numbered, and, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead there. 10And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children. 11And this is the thing that ye shall do, Ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man. 12And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male: and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.</div><div class="p"> 13And the whole congregation sent some to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peaceably unto them. 14And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not. 15And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that the LORD had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.</div><div class="p"> 16Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin? 17And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that be escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not destroyed out of Israel. 18Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin. 19Then they said, Behold, there is a feast of the LORD in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah. 20Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards; 21and see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin. 22And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come unto us to complain, that we will say unto them, Be favourable unto them for our sakes: because we reserved not to each man his wife in the war: for ye did not give unto them at this time, that ye should be guilty. 23And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them. 24And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.</div><div class="p"> 25In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.</div>

 <div class="label">10</div><div class="s1">Proverbs of Solomon</div><div class="p"> 1The proverbs of Solomon.</div><div class="q2">A wise son maketh a glad father:</div><div class="q2">But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.</div><div class="q1"> 2Treasures of wickedness profit nothing:</div><div class="q2">But righteousness delivereth from death.</div><div class="q1"> 3The LORD will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish:</div><div class="q2">But he casteth away the substance of the wicked.</div><div class="q1"> 4He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand:</div><div class="q2">But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.</div><div class="q1"> 5He that gathereth in summer is a wise son:</div><div class="q2"> But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.</div><div class="q1"> 6Blessings are upon the head of the just:</div><div class="q2">But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.</div><div class="q1"> 7The memory of the just is blessed:</div><div class="q2">But the name of the wicked shall rot.</div><div class="q1"> 8The wise in heart will receive commandments:</div><div class="q2">But a prating fool shall fall.</div><div class="q1"> 9He that walketh uprightly walketh surely:</div><div class="q2">But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.</div><div class="q1"> 10He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow:</div><div class="q2">But a prating fool shall fall.</div><div class="q1"> 11The mouth of a righteous man is a well of life:</div><div class="q2">But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.</div><div class="q1"> 12Hatred stirreth up strifes:</div><div class="q2">But love covereth all sins.</div><div class="q1"> 13In the lips of him that hath understanding wisdom is found:</div><div class="q2">But a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.</div><div class="q1"> 14Wise men lay up knowledge:</div><div class="q2">But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction.</div><div class="q1"> 15The rich man's wealth is his strong city:</div><div class="q2">The destruction of the poor is their poverty.</div><div class="q1"> 16The labour of the righteous tendeth to life:</div><div class="q2">The fruit of the wicked to sin.</div><div class="q1"> 17He is in the way of life that keepeth instruction:</div><div class="q2">But he that refuseth reproof erreth.</div><div class="q1"> 18He that hideth hatred with lying lips,</div><div class="q2">And he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.</div><div class="q1"> 19In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin:</div><div class="q2">But he that refraineth his lips is wise.</div><div class="q1"> 20The tongue of the just is as choice silver:</div><div class="q2">The heart of the wicked is little worth.</div><div class="q1"> 21The lips of the righteous feed many:</div><div class="q2">But fools die for want of wisdom.</div><div class="q1"> 22The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich,</div><div class="q2">And he addeth no sorrow with it.</div><div class="q1"> 23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief:</div><div class="q2">But a man of understanding hath wisdom.</div><div class="q1"> 24The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him:</div><div class="q2">But the desire of the righteous shall be granted.</div><div class="q1"> 25As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more:</div><div class="q2">But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.</div><div class="q1"> 26As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes,</div><div class="q2">So is the sluggard to them that send him.</div><div class="q1"> 27The fear of the LORD prolongeth days:</div><div class="q2">But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.</div><div class="q1"> 28The hope of the righteous shall be gladness:</div><div class="q2">But the expectation of the wicked shall perish.</div><div class="q1"> 29The way of the LORD is strength to the upright:</div><div class="q2">But destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.</div><div class="q1"> 30The righteous shall never be removed:</div><div class="q2">But the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.</div><div class="q1"> 31The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom:</div><div class="q2">But the froward tongue shall be cut out.</div><div class="q1"> 32The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable:</div><div class="q2">But the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.</div><div class="b"></div>

 <div class="label">16</div><div class="s2">Administrative and Personal</div><div class="p"> 1Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. 3And when I come, whomsoever ye shall approve by your letters, them will I send to bring your liberality unto Jerusalem. 4And if it be meet that I go also, they shall go with me.</div><div class="p"> 5Now I will come unto you, when I shall pass through Macedonia: for I do pass through Macedonia. 6And it may be that I will abide, yea, and winter with you, that ye may bring me on my journey whithersoever I go. 7For I will not see you now by the way; but I trust to tarry a while with you, if the Lord permit. 8But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost. 9For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.</div><div class="p"> 10Now if Timotheus come, see that he may be with you without fear: for he worketh the work of the Lord, as I also do. 11Let no man therefore despise him: but conduct him forth in peace, that he may come unto me: for I look for him with the brethren.</div><div class="p"> 12As touching our brother Apollos, I greatly desired him to come unto you with the brethren: but his will was not at all to come at this time; but he will come when he shall have convenient time.</div><div class="p"> 13Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14Let all your things be done with charity.</div><div class="p"> 15I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,) 16that ye submit yourselves unto such, and to every one that helpeth with us, and laboureth. 17I am glad of the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus: for that which was lacking on your part they have supplied. 18For they have refreshed my spirit and your's: therefore acknowledge ye them that are such.</div><div class="p"> 19The churches of Asia salute you. Aquila and Priscilla salute you much in the Lord, with the church that is in their house. 20All the brethren greet you. Greet ye one another with an holy kiss.</div><div class="p"> 21The salutation of me Paul with mine own hand. 22If any man love not the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be Anathema Maran-atha. 23The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. 24My love be with you all in Christ Jesus.
