The Gospel of Mark

DAY 15 OF 42

When Jesus returned to Nazareth, His hometown, very few believed He was worthy of their time. They rejected His teaching, ignored His miracles, and questioned His wisdom. They had known Jesus for many years, watching Him grow up, spending time with His family. They knew Him as a carpenter and rejected Him as anything more. They thought they knew who Jesus was.

Mark made it clear that the reason Jesus could not do any miracles in Nazareth was because of the unbelief of the people. They knew Jesus one way and they could not comprehend the possibility that He could be someone different than what they knew. They refused to believe Him. Because of this, they missed out on all the miracles Jesus could have done for them.

When we become familiar with God’s Word, we can easily fall into the trap of unbelief. Perhaps we have grown to understand an aspect of God’s character and refuse to dig deeper to understand more of who He is. When unbelief takes over we can miss out on incredible truths and miracles God wants to reveal to us. May we not be like those in Nazareth, but instead, like those who showed great faith.

Lord Jesus, forgive my unbelief. I believe You are the Son of God, and I want my life to reflect how I believe in You. Make me aware of times when I am not believing in You. Give me humility to stand in awe of You and Your Word. Amen.

About this Plan

The Gospel of Mark

The Gospel of Mark is a powerful account of the life of Jesus. It displays the character of Jesus on every page, from His willingness to suffer and serve to His power and deity miraculously displayed. With every scene the author asks, “Where is your faith?” As we read and study the Gospel of Mark we can’t help but answer this important question.
