Feeling Forgotten

The pain that comes from feeling forgotten by God is extremely hard to bear. You can go from trying to maintain the bit of faith you have left to completely rejecting faith, because trying to ‘keep the faith’ becomes a reminder of all the things you do not have. 

Even though we can feel forgotten by God, is He even capable of forgetting us?

Isaiah 49:15 NLT says, “‘Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!’”

Therefore it is impossible for God to forget you. It is not in His nature and who He is will not allow Him to do so. You can trust His word beyond what you feel, because He is a God who exalts His word above His name. So although we may feel abandoned by God at times, we never actually are. The feeling, however, is not meant to be ignored. That feeling of abandonment is an opportunity for us to experience His presence and sovereignty over our lives in ways that we are not used to.

As new parents, we’ve learned that even though we love our daughter more than we love ourselves, there will be times when she won’t feel loved by us based on her limited view and perception of life. That still doesn’t change the undeniable fact that we are madly in love with her. In the same way, our Father in heaven has plans for us, but those plans won’t always make us “feel” like God loves us.  

Which brings up the question: Why do we base the quality of God's fatherhood on what we physically see Him doing for us or others? Think about it for a second. 

It seems like we forget that God isn’t limited to this physical world, nor is He limited by flesh. Even time only has one master and His name is Jehovah, aka, your Heavenly Father. 

Remember that even if you're not the person they chose for the job, not the person they chose for the role or promotion, or not the person they chose to be with and marry you are still God's choice . We can not take it out on God, because as for Him, He first loved and chose us. 

David’s own father, Jesse, didn’t choose him when Samuel came to his home to anoint one of his sons as king. Jesse didn’t even consider David! It was almost as if God allowed Jesse to show who he would choose as king out of his children. Then God stepped in and proved that the one who was forgotten about was the one He had chosen.
