Advent: The Hope of ChristmasSample
Why did we need Jesus?
So why did we need Jesus? Simply put, when God created the world, he created it with perfect peace or shalom (peace). Then He made Adam and Eve, and, sadly, they committed the first sin against God. They ate fruit from which they were prohibited.
Bam. Sin entered into the picture. Sin was not of God's plan in this world. Passing from Adam to his children and their children, all leading up to us and all of those after. It was a generational curse, that built a wall, and disconnected us from God’s presence.
To reconnect to God, we needed a solution. Someone who could take on the sin of the world and help us reconnect with God to restore our relationship with Him.. We needed someone who could tear down the wall that we could not. Someone who could lead us directly to the Father. That someone is Jesus.
In fact, after Adam and Eve sinned. God made a gracious promise that He would raise up someone who would defeat the enemy once and for all ( Genesis 3:14-15).
Jesus would be the one to be born in a manger, grow up, take on the sin of the world, die and rise again. He would make the way for us. And now through Jesus, God is making all things new and returning creation back to shalom.
Take Away: Take about five minutes to pray to God and thank Him for sending His son Jesus.
Father, thank you for sending your only Son to us. Thank you for making a way for us to have a direct relationship with you. The baby in the manger is our defender and sinless sacrifice. He did what no one else could do. Thank you. In Jesus' name, Amen.
