Beauty Begins: Making Peace With Your ReflectionSample
A Daily Decision
Lifelong beauty requires a new mindset. To change the way we feel about ourselves we have to change the way we think about ourselves. I wish I could tell you that all you have to do is decide once that you are going to live for God and remember His truths and that every day becomes easy. But this is not how it is. We are going to forget that we are beautiful and loved, and even if we remember we won’t always feel that way. The truth is that this is a process. We have to make a daily decision to choose to believe the truth. We have to be intentional and truly long to live differently.
Start by making a daily choice to turn to God. Make the choice to love first; to the place where our first consideration in every decision is to love. For a lot of things, we have already made decisions about them. For example, I have already made the decision that I am going to brush my teeth every morning. I never get up and think, Do I want to brush my teeth today? No, I just get up and do it, no matter what. When we look in God’s word, there are a lot of decisions that are already made for us. But if we make ourselves go through the decision process every time, for things the Bible already tells us what to do, we are a lot less likely to end up on the right path. So as often as possible, we need to make our decisions ahead of time.
You aren’t going to become a different person, or change your mindset, with one big decision. It is going to take a lot of small decisions. You must make the daily choice to spend time with God. Will you always feel like doing it, of course not, but you do it anyways because you know the good that will come from it. Other decisions you might have to make could be finding a like-minded group of friends, always going to church on Sunday, and choosing to forgive. When we spend more time with God we become more like Him and in turn become more beautiful like Him.
Think about it: What daily decisions do you need to start making?
