Celebrate Jesus: LIGHT
“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:4-5 NLT
Jesus is life and light.
The Message translation says that Jesus is “Light to live by!”
The enemy brings death and darkness.
The dark can feel scary. We don’t know who is lurking around the corner and it is hard to navigate in complete darkness. We feel out of control.
I have a quote sitting next to my chair in the living room that says “Even the weakest light can hold back the darkness.” It doesn’t take much light to illuminate a room, right?
Verse 8 says, “John himself was not the light; he was simply a witness to tell about the light.”
And that’s what we are as well. We aren’t the light. Jesus is. We are simply witnesses that can point others to the true light in Jesus. This life is not about us. It’s about Him.
When I committed my life to Christ in April 1992, I had been walking in darkness. Drinking to get drunk, I got caught shop lifting, was lying to my parents, had a reputation for making out with different guys each weekend at parties, etc.
But, it left me feeling empty. I felt dead inside and in darkness. I was tired of waking up with a hangover every Saturday.
We moved to Findlay, Ohio in the middle of my junior year and through other teenagers who were reflecting the Light of Christ, my life was changed forever.
I became a follower of Jesus, the true Light.
The light switch in my heart was flipped on and I've never turned back.
Where are you today? Do you feel empty inside? Or are you filled with the light of Christ?
If you don’t know Jesus, you can step into His Light today.
And if you do know Him, are there still dark places in your heart that need His light today?
Prayer:
"Thank you, Jesus, for being the Light of the world. Please replace the darkness in my life with your pure light. Amen."
