Tamar: You Matter to GodSample

Tamar: You Matter to God

DAY 2 OF 4

Trauma and Abuse

Tamar did not get what she expected from her marital relationships. It is difficult to imagine the pain, heartbreak, betrayal, isolation, and episodes of psychological trauma Tamar experienced.

Tamar’s husbands were chosen for her. She found herself in relationships that others orchestrated for her. Tamar’s marital failures were not her fault, just like intergenerational curses and trauma. Without our permission, intergenerational curses and childhood trauma can force us to make the wrong marital and parenting choices.

Despite wanting a better marriage than our parents or a better childhood for our children, we may helplessly and subconsciously repeat unwanted family patterns. The validity of the intergenerational transfer of marital disruption and the lifelong impact of childhood trauma on parent-child relationships has been extensively studied in the mental health field. These studies confirm Biblical facts on generational curses.

Good people find themselves in abusive relationships or develop abusive parent-child relationships without knowing the root cause. Intergenerational curses and trauma are responsible for some emotional and relationship challenges. Lift up your head today; you are not the architect of all your problems.

Do you always find yourself in abusive relationships? Do you feel like you know the right things to do in relationships but find yourself making the wrong choices? The God who sovereignly rescued Tamar sees you and he wants to rewrite your story. God created us for relationships, and he cannot be overwhelmed by our burdens or concerns. God has an open invitation for you to come to him with everything that weighs you down. Matthew 11: 28 (NIV) says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Christ has redeemed us from every curse (Galatians 3:13). We need to receive and enforce our freedom from generational curses. The law activates generational curses, but the death and resurrection of Jesus set us free from curses.

Spiritually, you can enforce your victory over generational curses by praying, fasting, and declaring God’s Word concerning your freedom from curses. Consider reaching out to your pastor and reading Christian books on generational curses. You can also ask God to lead you to the right therapist to walk you through this process. You matter to God.

This day marks the beginning of your freedom from generational curses.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for redeeming me from intergenerational curses through Jesus Christ. I am a child of God; therefore, I do not deserve curses in my life. Today, I refuse to continue the intergenerational transfer of trauma. I enforce victory over generational curses by the blood of Jesus. I decree and declare freedom from intergenerational trauma and curses in Jesus' name.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Tamar: You Matter to God

Tamar was traumatized, abused, rejected, and she committed incest. Yet, God saw it fit to have her in Jesus’ lineage. As one who speaks to the intergenerational transmission of trauma, Temi Michael-O shares the story of Tamar through the lens of trauma and the redemptive power of grace. This four- day plan reminds us that we matter to God and God is not ashamed of our story.
