Family Christmas: A Devotional for KidsSample
The Ark of Our Salvation
By Danny Saavedra
“Then the Lord said to Noah, ‘Come into the ark, you and all your household . . .’” – Genesis 7:1 (NKJV)
Has a parent or teacher ever asked you to do something, but you didn’t do it right away? Maybe you were asked to put something back in its place, but because you didn’t, you lost it. When a parent or teacher asks you to do something and don’t do it, you probably get in trouble.
Now think of a time when you immediately obeyed. Even though it might have been hard, you were probably really happy and rewarded because you did it. Can you imagine if you and your family were the only ones on earth who followed God? That is exactly how a man named Noah and his family felt.
God told Noah to build an ark (a very big boat) to save his family from forty days of rain and flooding. And when God spoke, Noah listened. He didn’t wait until another day to do it. He believed, trusted, and obeyed God. Noah built the ark . . . and he built it even before there were signs of rain. That’s what we call faith—believing God, even though we sometimes don’t understand why.
The story of Christmas is a lot like the story of Noah and the Ark. When Jesus was born, God created a way for us to spend eternal life with Him in heaven. Because of Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and we are saved!
