Family Christmas: A Devotional for KidsSample
The Word Made Visible
By Danny Saavedra
“Josiah was eight years old when he became king . . . He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David . . .” – 2 Kings 22:1–2 (NIV)
Have you ever built a castle out of Legos? You can make almost anything you can think of out of Legos, right? Now imagine, right now, if you became an actual king or queen over a kingdom. That’s where our story begins when a young boy named Josiah, the son of David, became the King of Israel at only eight years old.
Unlike some of the kings in the past, Josiah loved God with all his heart. One of the first things he noticed when he became king was that the temple (kind of like a church) was falling apart, and he wanted to do something about it. As the construction builders began to work on the temple, they found something that had been lost for a long, long time. It was the Scriptures of the Bible! They dusted it off and started reading it to Josiah.
Josiah loved hearing God’s Word and was so changed by it that he wanted everyone in his entire kingdom to follow after God, too! So, do you know what he did next? He stopped all the people who were worshiping false gods and made the entire kingdom part of a Passover Feast. Think of the feast like a really big party so everyone could celebrate how good God is and what He had done throughout their family history.
This Christmas, think of ways you can share God and His Word with others.
