Come & SeeSample
Christians often talk about serving God. I wonder if God wants us to serve Him?
He wants us to love Him with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength and to love our neighbor as we love ourselves. (Matthew 22:37-38)
He wants us to use our spiritual gifts to serve other brothers and sisters in Christ. (1 Thess 5:11, Ephesians 4:12)
He wants us to go and make disciples and share the good news about Him. (Matthew 28:19-20)
But it seems important to Jesus to tell us that He does NOT call us His servants.
He came down from heaven to be among us. He really wants to be close to us. A boss and an employee cannot be as close as a friend and a friend.
He calls us His FRIENDS.
Who are the most important people in your life? Your family? True, but your family can be your friends too.
Think of your best friends. They make you happy. You smile and laugh and talk and have fun with them. You tell them everything that is on your mind and your heart and what is going on in your life. You tell them your secrets. You cry with them. They help you when you are suffering.
Do you know that Jesus looks at you and sees a friend? You make Him happy. He smiles and enjoys talking to you. He wants to tell you His thoughts and secrets. He wants you to be sad about the things that make Him sad. Everything the Father tells Him, Jesus wants to tell you.
How can you be better friends with Jesus?
Maybe you can find a place to go where you enjoy nature: a beach, a lake, a mountain to hike, a river to kayak. Go by yourself and spend time with Jesus.
We cannot see Jesus until we get to heaven, but we can hang out with other believers. He says, "Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them." (Matthew 18:20) I wonder if He is having fun when we have fun together.
