I am a Christian Mother

The first declaration in the Soldier's Creed states, “I am an American soldier”. It means, “I know who and whose I am”, “this is my identity”, and “I know what I am made of”. First, I am an American and my government protects me at all costs. Second, I am a soldier, a weapon of warfare. Knowing and believing these facts shaped my perception and attitude while serving in the United States Army. 

The enemy does not want us to know our identity- who we are. He is empowered by our ignorance. Until we know our identity and live in the fullness of that identity, we will continue to fall into the trap of comparison, feel incompetent, and survive instead of thriving in motherhood.

Who is a Christian Mother? A Christian mother is simply a mother who believes in Jesus Christ. It is that simple, yet powerful. Powerful because her relationship with Jesus comes first. She is first a Christian and this impacts her mothering practices. As a Christian, she belongs to the God who has never lost a battle and she has an army of angels at her disposal. She knows she is a citizen of heaven (Philippians 3:20). This gives her the audacity to believe God for heaven on earth and dare the impossible. As a mother, she has great influence over generations of people. Her natural and supernatural nurturing abilities launch children in her sphere of influence into their life’s purpose. 

A Christian mother’s identity is found in Christ, not in motherhood, marriage, occupation, or education. This keeps her from falling into the trap of comparison. Her sense of worth and security is found in Jesus Christ.

Prayer of Thanksgiving: Heavenly Father, I thank you for my salvation. I am glad to be your child and a citizen of heaven.
