Love God Greatly: Jesus Our Everythingනියැදිය

The Levitical system of rituals and sacrifices was good. God created it to show the people of Israel His holiness, to make them aware of their sin, and to set them apart as His chosen nation. However, this system was never meant to save us. God put a longing in the hearts of His people for more, for a coming Messiah who would one day fulfill all of the requirements of the law and set them free from the bondage of sin.
The law brings awareness of sin (Rm 7). We would not know sin or its consequences apart from the law. The law was not bad, and it was also not meant to save. Jesus alone offers salvation. Adherence, even perfect adherence, to the law cannot save us. Jesus fulfilled the law, allowing us to be saved through faith in Him.
We are no longer under the law. We are under the Spirit, the new covenant, one of freedom and grace. Unlike the Old Testament Israelites, we no longer have to look forward to the coming salvation. Our salvation is complete in Christ. We have the privilege of looking forward to His Second Coming with great expectation!
God, thank You for making a way for my salvation. Thank You for fulfilling the law through Christ and for allowing me to live on this side of the cross. Help me remember my works and actions do not save me, but that salvation is through Christ alone. Amen.
