Wild Heart: A 7-Day Devotional by Kim Walker-Smith

DAY 4 OF 7

Protector:

Colossians 2:14 (TPT) “He canceled out every legal violation we had on our record and the old arrest warrant that stood to indict us. He erased it all- our sins, our stained soul - he deleted it all and they cannot be retrieved! Everything we once were in Adam has been placed onto his cross and nailed permanently there as a public display of cancellation.”

The song “Protector” is a little unusual in that it starts out with a very bold statement, right out of the gate. The first line of the song says, “I come out of agreement with the lie.” When we accept Jesus into our heart and surrender to Him, as it says in Colossians, everything we once were, is nailed to the Cross. The death and resurrection of Jesus is the atonement for our sins and the promise of new life. But sometimes, we still live as if we haven’t been set free. Sometimes we still believe the voice of the accuser. And sometimes, the next and necessary step for us to take is to verbally speak out loud and break the agreement with the lies we are believing. The Bible say that life and death is in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21) and sometimes we need to take a bold stance against the lying voice of the enemy, which tries to convince us that we are still bound to the old man. But the truth is that we have been redeemed through the Cross! This means that the next step after breaking the agreements with the lies, is to come into agreement and alignment with the truth of Who God is and who God says we are. That is what this song is all about! It’s not just another “church song” to sing on a Sunday morning; it is a powerful statement and weapon to wield against our enemy! This song is meant to bring greater freedom to those who hear it and sing it.

To call God “Protector”, is not just naming another attribute of God or coming up with a clever new line for a song. It is a posture of surrender. We are saying that we trust God with our whole heart. We trust Him to protect us, to lead us, to care for us, and to never fail us. Today as you read this scripture and listen to the song, break free of the lies you have been believing about yourself and about God! Ask Him to open your eyes to reveal what those are, nail them to the Cross, and come into agreement with the truth that God speaks over you.
