Praying Through the Letters of John with Hillsong CreativeSample
After you have completed today’s reading from the Bible, we encourage you to set aside a moment to listen along to the guide provided as we pray and allow God to speak to us through His Word.
1 John 5:3-4 says, “In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the world…”
Here John revisits this theme: that with God, love and sacrificial obedience go hand in hand. In your prayer through 1 John, how has God been speaking to you about this? Have you found it difficult to step out in obedience? Speak to God about that now.
God’s commands are not burdensome. That statement is incredibly freeing! Think about that truth for a moment now. God’s commands are not burdensome. Obedience is not a weight we carry, it’s the joy of living fully alive in Christ.
As you’ve been born of God, He has created you to be an overcomer, to live in freedom and liberty. How do you think your obedience enables you to overcome the world? What does that mean to you today?
Talk to God now about that. Choose today to hold fast to love and obedience.
“Thank you, Father, that Your love frees us from living according to the ways of the world, bound by our mistakes and failings. But rather Your love frees us to live Your way, a way that leads to life guided by truth in Your Word. Thank You that the Holy Spirit today helps us to live Your way in every situation. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

About this Plan
Join the creative community of Hillsong Church as we read and pray through 1, 2, and 3 John. These works are likely penned by the apostle John, written to a known community of believers and to specific individuals within this community. John wrote to combat false teaching by re-anchoring believers in the truth of Jesus Christ and giving guidance on how to live in love as children of God.
