Day Two: Peace Through God’s Power

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet” (Romans 16:20).

Yesterday we learned that peace can only be found in God’s presence, which is accessible and available to every believer. 

Only in God’s presence do we have access to His power, and power is crucial if we want to have peace. You see, we have an enemy—Satan. First Peter 5:8 says, “He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” Satan hates every person who puts their faith in Christ, and he constantly tries to bring us harm and steal our peace. 

In order to win the battle against Satan, we need to have power. However, we must remember that power does not originate within us. The second we begin to rely on our own intelligence or ability, we open the door to pride. Pride and peace are not compatible because pride cannot exist in God’s presence. Pride led to Satan’s expulsion from heaven, and it leads to our destruction as well (Proverbs 16:18). 

True power comes from God and God alone. The apostle Paul wrote, “Our great power is from God, not from ourselves” (2 Corinthians 4:7). If we want to access God’s power, we must be in His presence, and the way to enter His presence is through worship. Psalm 100:4 instructs us, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.” 

Worship is not just singing and praying at church on Sunday mornings. Many people stand and move their mouths, but they aren’t actually worshipping. Why? Because worship is much more than lip service. Jesus told the women at the well, “God is Spirit, so those who worship him must worship in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). When we worship God, we align our hearts with His and recognize that He alone is worthy of all glory, honor, and majesty. 

We can worship God anywhere and anytime—in the car, at work, and even at the grocery store. When we do, He fills us with His power and enables us to overcome every scheme and weapon of the enemy. Satan may be crafty, but his control over us is just a facade. First John 4:4 says, “The Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” 

We don’t have to be Bible scholars or theologians to defeat the enemy. All we have to do is come into God’s presence and receive the unlimited power and peace available to every child of God.

Holy God, thank You for allowing us to come into Your presence through worship. We recognize that we are completely dependent on You for power over the enemy who wants to steal our peace. We commit to worship You in spirit and truth, according to Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
