WE not ME
Rex Stump
Ready:
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” Philippians 2:3-4
Set:
The Super Bowl is one the largest sporting events watched each year. Millions gather to watch the two best teams square off to determine who will be the champion of the NFL season. Parties are planned, gatherings take place, and snacks are devoured as viewers have high expectations. Some are more entertained by the commercials and half-time show, while others enjoy the game and shared stories about the players.
Prior to departing for Atlanta, L.A. Rams wide receiver Brandin Cooks found the team janitor, Alfonso Garcia. Alfonso had no idea why Brandin wanted to speak to him; but he soon discovered that Brandin wanted to give Alfonso and his son two tickets to fly from Los Angeles to Atlanta to attend the Super Bowl. Everything was covered. Why did he do this?
Brandin recognized the good work done of another person. The Rams theme has been, “We Not Me.” It reminds everybody that success is a team effort – everyone has value and a purpose. Brandin told Garcia: “You’re part of this team, too.”
Paul said that each of us needs to choose daily to be selfless versus being selfish. “Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” You may never be an all-start, pro athlete, or even an MVP, but you can treat others like they are an MVP. When we show love to others, when we become selfless, we reflect the life and love of Jesus Christ to everyone.
Go:
1. Are we so focused on what we do that we fail to see the efforts of others?
2. Who can you serve today?
Workout:
- Romans 12:8-9
- 2 John 1:5-6
- Romans 13:8-10
Overtime:
“Heavenly Father, thank You for showing Your love towards me. Help me to love others. Give me the eyes to see those who need Your love. Help me to be selfless! Amen.”
