Dreamville: What Is Your God Dream? Sample
JOSEPH REFUSED TO BE SIDETRACKED
Before fully giving my life to God in 2014, I used to go out a lot with my best mates and live the party lifestyle. Drinks, drugs, sex, fights - you name it. After I patched up my relationship with Jesus and got back into church, I started getting these inner convictions about how I lived my life. The problem was, while I was going to church all my mates were going off and living the party lifestyle. I was so tempted to go with them and join in even though I knew it would damage my spirit. I knew I was called to bigger things.
Following the story of Joseph, he finds himself in a sticky situation when his boss’s wife takes a liking to him. Joseph found himself in the midst of temptation but immediately refused, saying he was entrusted by Potiphar and couldn’t sin against God. Genesis 39:9 ‘How then could I do such a thing and sin against God?” Joseph listens and obeys God's commands. He refused immediately and counted the cost realistically.
When faced with a tempting situation, it is so difficult to make the right decision, especially when you aren’t prepared for it. That’s why, based on the conviction from the Holy Spirit, it’s crucial to decide what you will do before-hand, not in the heat of the moment.
For example: If I know my friends are planning on shoplifting in the mall, I know I shouldn’t do it. So to remove temptation, I won’t go to the mall.
It’s okay to feel tempted. Temptation isn’t wrong. Jesus himself was tempted. The difference lies in how you react to temptation. Joseph faced temptation and had to ask himself the question, "Do I indulge in my sinful desires? Or do I resist and press on to achieve the dream God has put in my heart and the life He has called me to?" Dedication to the calling of God will always help you persevere. He knew what God had called him to and the dream God had placed in his heart. He refused to settle for second best.
Is there an area in your life right now where you feel you could be making better choices?
I promise you, when you are faithful to God, He will bless you exceedingly and abundantly.
