Faults come in many shapes and sizes, and everyone has them, no matter who we are or where we are from. We could have a critical or negative nature, pride, or insecurities. Maybe you struggle with a temper like Moses sometimes did, or maybe you have trouble controlling your mouth like I do.

My propensity to talk has been with me since I uttered my first word. I’m sure at one time or another my parents had to think, And we wanted her to learn to talk? Talking too much or saying the wrong things has always been my weakness—a fault, something that is a part of me, and works for me until I allow it take control, then it works against me.

It’s imperative we recognize and admit our faults, then submit them to the Spirit’s control and the power of the Word. Years ago, God intersected my fault with a truth that changed me. “Help me, Lord, to keep my mouth shut and my lips sealed” (Psalm 141:3).

Knowing Scripture won’t make us faultless, but it will make us Spirit sensitive. When our faults emerge, the Holy Spirit quickens our hearts, which allows us to confess and seek forgiveness. Now that’s power.

God’s grace covers this fault of mine and invites me to be part of the ministry He is doing on this side of eternity. He allows me to bless Him and others with words in the pages of books and from the pulpit. Faults don’t disqualify us from working with God, but they might delay God’s plan. They haven’t disqualified me, and Moses’s anger didn’t disqualify him either. Moses demonstrated his short fuse throughout much of his story in the biblical narrative of the Old Testament. 

I love that God doesn’t pull the plug on His plan for us after just one occurrence of failure, one moment of fear, one fault gone rogue, or one frailty not surrendered. If this were the case, Moses’s story would have ended the day he killed the Egyptian. Instead, God continued to communicate and work with Moses, using the pieces of Moses’s fractured faith to advance His great plan for His beloved Israel. No matter what we do, or don’t do, God sees us as worthwhile, full of potential, and longs to advance His great plan for our life.

Are you aware of your faults? Every human being has them. Acknowledging and surrendering our faults allows God to use them for His glory.
