Moses – The Making of a LeaderSample
Day 22: The Song of Moses
Thoughts on the Passage
Songs are amazing. They help us remember things. They touch not only the mind but also the soul and spirit. The words can be remembered more easily because they are attached to music.
When the words give powerful pictures – the songs have huge impact.
Moses wrote at least three songs. We see the first in Exodus 15. He wrote another one recorded in Deuteronomy 32. He wrote Psalm 90 – which we looked at yesterday. All three of these songs give us deep insight into Moses passion and heart for God.
In Exodus 15 we see the song describes God’s victory over the Egyptian army – and it is a powerful testimony of God’s protection, deliverance and love for His people. Deuteronomy 32 gives us a different song – one that looks at the challenges of the past and God’s faithfulness through everything they faced. It also warns them to keep remembering God’s faithfulness – because He is faithful to all His promises, including His promise to judge His people if they rebel.
So why does the book of Revelation declare that God’s people will once again sing the song of Moses? I think it is the testimony of God’s people through the ages declaring again God’s faithfulness and God’s protection in the midst of great difficulty.
Songs like that are worth remembering, repeating and declaring.
Application to our Life
What songs continue to strengthen you when you struggle in your walk? Do not be afraid to sing them.
When you take time to reflect on God’s faithfulness – write it down. If you can, put it to music.
Time to Pray
Father, there are songs that I have heard that took me through difficult times. You inspired Your children to write them and they touched me in powerful ways. I am singing them to myself again. They remind me again of Your faithfulness when I faced troubled times. They remind me of hymns like “Amazing Grace”, “Be Thou my Vision”, or “All hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”. I think of some children’s songs that continue to be favorites - Jesus loves Me. All of these songs keep coming back when I need help, encouragement, or just a reason to celebrate Your faithfulness. Today is another good day to do it. In Jesus name, Amen.
About this Plan
We all have excuses as to why we cannot move when God tells us to. “I’m not qualified” or “I’m still getting training in that area”. We think that our limitations are God’s limitations and we stop moving. In Plan 4 of Learning from the Old Testament Greats, we see Moses’ journey from fearful to faithful. We learn from his life how one “grows as they go”.
