The Whisper of God: An Invitation to the Secret PlaceSample
Positioned in His Presence
The Lord knows you by name, and He’s calling you! Are our hearts tuned to the sound of His voice? In 1 Samuel 3, we see something extremely instrumental in Samuel’s first encounter with the Lord! Verse 3b says, “Samuel was lying down in the house of the Lord, where the ark of God was.” Knowing and hearing the voice of God means we must position ourselves in His presence! Often, hearing His voice just requires a little repositioning. Ask the Holy Spirit, “Is there any area of my life that needs to be repositioned back toward Your presence?”
Verse 7 says, “Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, nor had the word of the Lord been revealed to him.” The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to Samuel, but he was positioned for encounter and revelation. As we position ourselves in God’s presence, He will reveal and unveil Himself to us. We must carry a Samuel response, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” In verse 19, it says that not a single word Samuel prophesied fell to the ground! As we wait on the Lord and listen for His voice, He will unveil His beauty in unfathomable measures, and we will become unified with His heart for everyone around us!
We must be like the 5 wise virgins in Matthew 25, who prepared themselves with jars of oil for their lamps to meet their Bridegroom. The 5 foolish virgins pleaded with the wise virgins to share their oil. We can’t thrive off of the intimacy and prayer lives of others. We are responsible to cultivate and steward our intimacy with the Lord!
“Where do I end? Where do You begin? You make Your home inside my skin.”
– Jason Lee Jones
It’s in abiding and intimate union that our hearts become fine-tuned to the sound of our Father’s voice. Jesus is longing for intimate union with His beloved. He’s knocking; He’s calling; let’s open our lives to Him and make a place for Him.
