Isaiah: God's Vision for Our HeartsSample

Isaiah: God's Vision for Our Hearts

DAY 3 OF 6

The Woe of Mocking

The third woe of Isaiah 5 is mocking. Mocking God is a serious sin, and the people in verses 18 and 19 call on God in an indecent manner. They declare that God will not follow through with his punishments, and they taunt him to show himself. They are calling him a liar! Prideful and boastful, these sinners think they know better than the almighty God.

Unfortunately, they are also sinning by feigning spirituality. They put on a show of faith and believe God will do nothing about it. You and I need to make sure we are not following this model. It can be all too easy to simply go through the motions of the Christian faith all the while believing that we are being spiritual. At times, we may believe we know better than God. We may even put God to the test to see if he truly will punish us when we sin.

Fellow believer, our mindset should always be genuine. Even when we fail God, we should not be afraid to admit our mistakes and defeats and ask for forgiveness from those we have wronged. Don’t follow the evildoers who cover up sin with false righteousness and mockery. Instead, we should be honest, genuine people who live for God as best we can, always asking our Father for guidance.

God, help me to lean on you. Help me to be genuine and lead an honest life. When I mess up, please keep me from mocking or testing you but help me come to you humbly for forgiveness. Thank you for loving me and for giving me the ability to know and honor you.

About this Plan

Isaiah: God's Vision for Our Hearts

Isaiah was written thousands of years ago, but the truths found within remain pertinent today. And although it was written to the people of ancient Israel, its wisdom applies to all Christians. Isaiah chapter 5 specifically covers six woes that God wanted to communicate to help us remain on a righteous path for his glory. Read this plan with an open heart and let God change you for his good.
