Be the Girl
Let’s be real. We don’t need any more friends who come alongside us and point out all our imperfections. We live in our heads and tell ourselves about them all the time. I have no desire to hear, “You should have done this” or “You’re not doing it right.” A true friend sees you in your brokenness, struggles, and hurting and comes along and helps without boasting or wanting something in return. We need more women who see our crowns falling off our heads in the grocery store while our baby is screaming from the cart and comes over to distract the baby then leans in and says, “You’re doing a great job, Mama. I’ve been there. It isn’t easy.”
Be the girl who stops by when a friend is sick. Heck, don’t even ask what she needs. Most likely, your girlfriend will feel like a burden and say she’s all good. Show up anyway with dinner, empty the dishwasher, or put in a load of laundry. Take the kids out for ice cream. Just show up and do nothing. But be the girl who shows up wanting nothing in return, just ready to give love, kindness, and grace. Don’t post it on social media looking for praise. Your girlfriend sees it and feels loved and seen, and our Father is watching. He is pleased.
