Give God our Strength
Genesis 32:24-26, 28
“So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. When the man saw he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched…‘I will not let you go unless you bless me’…Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and men and have overcome.”
This wrestling match with an angel marked a key turning point in Jacob’s life. He had come to the end of his own strength, schemes and ability, and he needed God’s blessing and favor. God allows us to reach those difficult places so that we yield our strength (hip joint) and our will to God. It is easy to give God our sin, but not as easy to surrender our will. A yielded will results in a new name and identity that God gives to us. We now belong to him. If we desire to be overcomers like Jacob, the journey for us will be much the same.
Lord Jesus, I yield my will to you again today and desire to overcome, for your glory.
