[Difference Makers ls] God of the Universe and Little Ol’ Me

DAY 3 OF 7

Lord over Leaders

Isaiah 40:23 says that God reduces princes to nothing and makes judges irrational, or useless. God is greater than the leaders of the earth. Is God a Republican or a Democrat? Neither. He is not a donkey or an elephant; He is the Creator. He is above the leaders of the earth.

Before he became a famous Christian author, Chuck Colson was a part of Richard Nixon’s administration. Obviously, that did not go too well, and Colson was sent to prison. He came to Christ there, and later had a prison ministry and was an amazing man of God. He once told the story of being in Rome, looking at the ruins of the Roman senate. He thought back to the Roosevelt room, which was just right across the hall from the Oval Office, where everybody would sit around this big mahogany table. Henry Kissinger would sit there with the senior aides at 8 a.m. each day, and he would say, “Gentlemen, we are going to make decisions today that will affect the course of human history.” And so, as Chuck Colson looked at the senate ruins in Rome, his mind went back to that mahogany table. He asked himself, “Where will that table be 2,000 years from now, compared to the rock of Jesus 2,000 years from now?”

Leaders are like grasshoppers and that table will be sawdust one day. God is above even the greatest of leaders. Yet if we read further in the New Testament, and all through Proverbs, we hear about the importance of having leaders who lead in the right direction, and the problems that come when they go in the wrong direction.

So, when we have elections, I ask that you would pray. And secondly, I ask that you would vote. We want to put good men and women in charge, who will lead our city and our country in a direction that honors the teachings of Scripture. Isaiah 26:1–4 says that when we have leadership trusting in the Lord, our city and nation will be strong and at peace. The Lord God is the eternal Rock; we are living in shifting shadows because we are not trusting Him.

Do I put my trust in fleeting things like a political party or a human leader? Or, am I investing myself in a kingdom that will last?

Day 2Day 4

About this Plan

[Difference Makers ls] God of the Universe and Little Ol’ Me

Through Isaiah, God gave a message of hope that the people of Judah and Israel would need after their time in exile. Emphasizing God’s greatness, and contrasting it to human frailty, Matte highlights how we should trust God, gain perspective on our troubles, approach leadership, and consider the universe. With a two-tiered look at God’s transcendence and His intimacy, this plan will encourage you in your spiritual growth.
