Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 11Sample

Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 11

DAY 2 OF 30

Wednesday evening (start of the fourteenth day of Nisan) they eat the Passover meal, one day earlier than normal (John 13:1, 29); the paschal lambs are not yet killed. Instead Jesus uses bread: “My body”. John learns that Judas is the one to betray Jesus.

Note John 13:2, 4: While John (and later Paul in 1 Corinthians 11:20) refers to this meal as a ‘supper’, Jesus referred to it as ‘Passover’ although it was one day early. The Church should also use Passover and not the pagan name Easter that confusingly hides the prophetic fulfillment. It was unlikely to have included meat as this was before the ritual killing of the Paschal lambs (John 13:1, 29). Jesus used the bread as ‘meat’: “Take, eat; this is my body (Matthew 26:26)”.
