Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 39 OF 60

ROCK STARS

[Scheduled Reading: Isaiah 1-9]

During Israel’s decline, the real Bible rock stars are not the kings. They are the prophets!

These prophets are not in the line of The Seed. Most are not even from the tribe of Judah (Daniel was an exception).

Their role is to tell the kings what God is planning to do.

The kings are mostly unreceptive and threaten to kill the prophets. Many prophets die gruesome deaths at the hands of wicked kings.

The words of the Prophets are spoken during the 500 years of Israel’s decline (after King David to their exile).

Chronologically, the accounts of these 17 books (5 major prophets and 12 minor prophets) coincide with the books of Kings and Chronicles.

While most of the prophet writings are not in this reading plan, I have selected a few portions to help us make some key connections.

The book of Isaiah kicks off the prophet writings.

You may remember earlier in our reading, the prophet Isaiah tells Hezekiah (one of the good kings) that a day is coming when all the kingdom treasures, and even the king's sons, would be carried off to Babylon. (2 Kings 20:16-19)

Sure enough, that happens.

Isaiah makes another stunning prophecy about the remnant that would return to Jerusalem (with Zerubbabel, Ezra and Nehemiah).

If the Lord of hosts had not left us a few survivors, we should have been like Sodom, and become like Gomorrah. Isaiah 1:9

Bible historians consider Isaiah to be the prophet who understood the most about the coming Messiah – The Seed.

Isaiah Chapter 9 speaks to this foreknowledge:

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace, there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. (Isaiah 9:6-7).

Isaiah knew where things were headed. A SEED from the line of David will come and rule forever.

That’s where things are headed in this Bible read.

Continue on, friends.
