Journey Of The Seed - Catch The Bible's Big Picture In 60 Days

DAY 24 OF 60

THE BIG HEART

[Scheduled Reading: 1 Samuel 24 - 31]

The Bible might contain as much biographical data on David as it does for any other character.

Sure, Abraham has a nice portfolio of Bible space devoted to his life. So does Joseph and Moses. In the New Testament, Jesus and Paul have lots of print space.

But in terms of life events, family data, personal trials and triumph, thoughts and reflections, from teenager to adulthood to the deathbed - the biblical account of David is loaded (don’t forget his many Psalms).

David’s run from Saul is a dark season for him. Years of being essentially homeless – in the forests or in hide-out lands, dodging King Saul’s armies.

David’s two sneak attacks on Saul - and choosing to spare his life - show David’s extreme discipline and willingness to further risk his own life to honor God.

Even David’s men could not understand his logic for not killing Saul.

David’s tenderness toward Saul and his family is exactly the kind of behavior that God found so appealing.

David’s uniqueness was his heart. It’s likely the reason for the lifetime of favor God heaped on this man.

It’s the reason he was chosen king over Saul.

It’s the reason for his many victories.

And I believe it’s the reason for God’s staggering covenant He made with David.

That’s coming up tomorrow.
