Jeremy Camp - I Will FollowSample
“Christ In Me”
In this obsession with the things this world says make us happy / Can’t see the slaves we are in all the searching, all the grasping
What are you chasing? Money? Fame? Love? Approval? Good or bad, we’re all chasing something. It’s human nature to get caught up in the things the world says we should be chasing in order to keep up with our neighbor. This often means setting our sights on a perfect home life, a larger house or a corner office. Sometimes even good things can become a fruitless chase when we value them above our relationship with Christ. But God says we have to choose — one or the other.
Matthew 6:24 (NIV) reminds us, “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
We’re constantly looking for other things and other people to fill us up and validate our happiness, foolishly thinking that if we just had the latest smartphone or the biggest house on the block, suddenly life would get better. Or perhaps if we only had that dream job or found that one person to spend the rest of our lives with, then we would finally be happy. Guilty as charged.
It’s time we pulled away from the seductive things the world wants to sell us, and cleaned house - ridding ourselves of any desire that’s not rooted in Christ.
So come and empty me / So that it’s You I breathe / I want my life to be only Christ in me / So I will fix my eyes / ‘Cause You’re my source of life / I need the world to see / That it’s Christ in me
God wants to give us the desires of our hearts, but He wants our dreams to align with His will. Most of all, He wants us to want Him above all else. As we empty ourselves to be filled with more of Christ, our thoughts will become His thoughts; our actions, His actions; our words, His words. Little by little, we’ll begin to look more and more like Him so that when the world looks our way, they’ll see us building a Kingdom worth far more than any corner office or six-figure paycheck can afford. May the world see Jesus when they look at us.
