This is a common story told to children because of the vivid picture of walls falling down. We can get caught up in how amazing it is and forget that God is teaching His people something about Himself. God is reassuring His people of His care and protection for them by defeating an enemy in a way that undeniably points to God’s power. Was it because they were such great people who deserved God’s favor? No, remember they hadn’t even bothered to go through a simple ceremony to confirm their devotion to God.
God is capable of demonstrating His power in our lives too. There are obstacles we all face that require trust in God to overcome.

About this Plan

Although the Bible contains many stories, it is one story from beginning to end of God’s interactions with humanity. One day per week can be used to catch up on missed readings or for reflection.
