ENOUGH: STUFF
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” (Mark 1:35)
There’s so much stuff isn’t there? Stuff is everywhere. Stuff sometimes feels like it’s completely going to take over our lives. Stuff comes from adverts and billboards and magazines that all want to tell us we need more stuff, that life would be better if we did this or bought that or went there.
Jesus wasn’t someone who was swayed by stuff. He knew the way to drown out all the other voices around Him was simply to tune in to the only voice that really matters.
It challenges me because apparently, Jesus withdrew from the stuff often, and He did this for one reason alone – to pray to His Father in heaven.
When I’ve traveled overseas, I’ve seen that people with very little stuff are often better than I am at prayer and at simply being with Jesus. So let’s each of us try to withdraw more often to lonely places.
Loving God, help me to remember that no amount of stuff can truly satisfy me. You alone are the One who can satisfy my deepest longings. Help me to follow Jesus’ example, and to withdraw to spend time with You, because it is simply the best way that I can spend my time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

About this Plan
In God’s eyes, we are more than enough. It’s why He sent His son to reconcile us to Him. Though we may never grasp just how much He loves us, at Lent we can take time to reflect on all He did for us. It's time to reject the message that we aren’t enough, and instead remember Christ died for us, just as we are.
