IN GOD WE TRUST
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.” - John 14:1
In God We Trust was written in response to the suicide and self-harm epidemic that continues to rise in our country. There is an average of 40,000 recorded suicide attempts each year. That only counts recorded attempts; who knows what goes on behind closed doors. Our culture is at crossroads with so many individuals trying to find alternative ways to deal with their hurt and pain. The World Health Organization says that every 20 seconds someone in the world will die taking their life. It’s time that as followers of Christ we rise up to do something. We can help bring about a culture of change through transparency, both with each other and with our Savior.
This song was introduced at a summer camp with hundreds of teenagers, many of whom were trying so hard to fill their hearts with something. There are so many emotions that come into play when an individual is at that low point, but the most common is an identity issue. We hate what we see in the mirror enough that we can even try to destroy ourselves. So many of us can relate to this, that moment where you look in the mirror and you aren't happy with yourself. Jesus knows this about us and doesn’t reject you or I when we feel this way. He finds us at our lowest moment and wraps his arms around us as we focus on him. When we place our identity in Christ, the pressures of the world fade away.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
VERSE 1:
I've placed my life in so many other hands
So many I can't keep track
Hating what I see I make my reflection bleed
But even there you find me
PRECHORUS:
You're always by my side
Cause I'm always on your mind
Yes I'm on your mind now
CHORUS 1:
In God I trust
You will never let me down
Never let me down
Your love my rock
You will never let me go
Never let me go
VERSE 2:
I've wasted so much time searching for a place to hide
Scrolling through my endless vices
Interrupt my gaze show me there's another way
One where I can see Your face
BRIDGE
For Yours is the Kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the power now, forever
Your name brings freedom
In Christ my Savior
Your love my security, forever
CHORUS 2
In God we trust
You will never let us down
Never let us down
Your love our rock
You will never let us go
Never let us go
