Money Matters: Making money God’s way
One of the things that everybody knows for sure about money is that it is the root of all evil, right? Well, er, no. The Bible says--actually--that it is the love of money that is a root of all kinds of evil. Can you see the difference?
How a person talks about money is sometimes a window into that person’s heart, letting us see how he or she feels about money. Some people always seem to have to relate things to money. “How much does this body armor cost? How much money have we spent on this war?” As if money were the important thing!
Money is just a tool. It is portable power. It is an extremely convenient way to turn labor into goods and the need for goods into labor. Money is a far better way to store wealth than livestock.
If you are poor, God most certainly loves you, and he will help you survive. And yes, materialism and cash idolatry are deadly sins indeed. But it is certainly not God’s desire that his people should all be poor. He approves of your making money, and he would like you to build wealth for your family’s needs, for community investment, and for generosity in spreading the gospel. “Lazy hands make a man poor, but diligent hands bring wealth” (Proverbs 10:4).
Did you catch that? God not only allows you to pursue building wealth; he actually promises to bless your hard work. Don’t love the wealth, but love the one who allows you to earn it.

About this Plan
The experience of serving your country overseas--and sometimes seeing firsthand man’s inhumanity to man--may teach you important lessons about life while turning your stomach at the same time. But recognize that God has an even better way for us to learn life wisdom, a way that continually draws us closer to him no matter how far from family or church we might be. Because of his great love for us, he would much rather make us wiser through words. In this way we wouldn’t be sadder but wiser; we would be wiser and happier. The Bible’s book of Proverbs is an absolute gold mine of wisdom for the daily decisions you must make. It will help you develop your personal values and tune your life’s agenda more closely to resemble God’s.
