Praying For PeaceSample
DAY FIVE: Are You Approachable?
God gives us peace in the midst of darkness not to keep it to ourselves but to, in turn, go into the world and testify that what God has done for us He can also do for others.
As the Lord’s disciples, we are His representatives in the world today. We are His peacemakers, helping people to see the God who loves them and has reconciled them back into fellowship with Him. I believe Jesus left us a picture of what we, as believers, are called to do in the world.
How did Jesus choose to come to this woman in her hopeless situation? The scripture says Mary turned around, and when she saw Jesus, she assumed He was the gardener! She didn’t recognize Him. Jesus could have appeared however He wanted to—He was raised from the dead, all powerful, and with all authority. But He chose to appear to her as an ordinary person. I believe He was showing us the purpose and pattern of His church—just ordinary people, like you and me, coming to somebody in a hopeless situation.
We too often look for God in the big, miraculous happenings in life, not understanding that He can be found in the still, small voice; He can be found through the encouragement of normal, ordinary people.
Are you approachable? Do you give people the assurance that you care—that they are safe to open their hearts to you?
There are a lot of people in the world who need to know God hears them, knows them, and calls them by their name. You and I are not called to be superstars; we’re not called to have all the answers. We are simply called to be ordinary people with faith and compassion who share the love of God with those who are in need.
