Day 8 | Goodness
My Daddy has always said, “sometimes there’s not an obvious reason why you should do the right thing – you do the right thing because it’s the right thing to do.”
That’s goodness.
Always doing right.
Always doing good.
Getting in the habit of making the choice we think Jesus would make.
Asking Jesus to help us see the good in our husbands,
the good in our kids,
the good in our friends,
the good in our parents,
the good in the church,
the good in our siblings.
Choose goodness.
Let’s think about goodness.
List the good things about your family. Your home. Your school. Your church. Your friendships.
List any decisions you’re trying to make where you see a choice that maybe isn’t between good and bad, but good and best. Think about what it means to choose goodness.
Several years ago, W.W.J.D. was on everything from bracelets to bumper stickers. We talked about it and we wore it, but did we do it? “What Would Jesus Do?” can be answered in one word.
Goodness.
What are some areas in your life that challenge you to choose good?
In a world that can sometimes seem to have lost all goodness we see very little proof of good around us. The media, the newspaper, even the talk in the hallways at work very often focuses on the bad in the world.
Concentrate today on the good.
Stretch your thinking outside your family into the community and nation you live in. Pray for your leaders as they seek to make good decisions on your behalf.
What are some actions you can take toward goodness? List 10 things in your life that are evidence of good choices you have made. List some things that could have been better if you’d made a better choice.
Search the Word to find God’s idea of goodness and ask Him to guide you in making decisions that are pleasing to Him.
About this Plan
It's reinforced a million different ways. We overcommit and wear independence like a crown, modeling for those watching us that busy is synonymous with success. Isn't it ironic that what we're called to is complete dependence? This walk through the Fruits of the Spirit reminds us that as we totally submit to God, only then will we be stronger and more beautiful.
