DAY 46 OF 60

Day 46

YOU’VE DONE IT!

[Scheduled Reading: Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi]

Congratulations! After today you will have finished the Old Testament.

When you hold your Bible in your hand, you should be able to see how much you’ve read - and what little remains. The New Testament covers 14 days of the 60-day reading schedule.

Before we close out the Old Testament reading, I want to plant a flag. It has to do with a topic on the last few pages of Malachi, The Book of Remembrance (3:16-18).

This “Book of Remembrance” is essentially The Book of Life, a record containing the names of those who have been set apart by God, just “as a man spares his son who serves him” (Malachi 3:17).

It’s a deep, serious biblical theme. One that surfaces again in the final pages of the Bible. Check out Revelation 20:12-15 and you’ll see.

The name of everyone who has ever lived (born or unborn) has an identify and will be recognized by God in either the Book of Life, or in another set of books. Those whose names are in these other books (not the Book of Life), will suffer eternal judgment.

Notice how God closes out the Old Testament in the same way as how the New Testament will conclude: a reminder of the coming judgment that awaits all of mankind.

Malachi’s book is small. But it’s final message is HUGE.
