Turn My Eyes - a 7-Day Devotional by BonraySample
Day 5 – Good Life
Start shaking off the dust
Start cleaning off the rust
From your weary heart
Don’t ever had to look back
Forgiven of your past
With a brand-new story
“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” – James 1:17 (NIV)
In our society, we are always chasing the “good life.” We’re always looking to other people and things to make us happy. It’s easy to look for fulfillment from things that the world has to offer, but those will only satisfy us temporarily and leave us feeling empty and wanting something more. We can only be satisfied and fulfilled by the Holy Spirit - that is how we will really live the good life.
God wants to give us EVERY blessing. Just like James 1:17 says, every blessing comes from Him!
“For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.” - Deuteronomy 30:16 (NIV)
Sin makes us feel broken and like we’re not good enough. Unfortunately, a lot of the time it causes us to want to hide from God. But those are lies! When Christ died on the cross, He wiped us clean from EVERY sin. Not only did He erase those sins, but He gave us victory to conquer them.
Just like the song “Good Life” says, He has given us a brand-new start. Instead of feeling heavy and guilty, we are forgiven and can look forward to the plans and exciting life God has for every single one of us. He gives us guidance and the power to move forward. It’s a life full of REAL love, joy, and purpose that doesn’t change depending on our circumstances. We can live the good life!
Dear Lord,
Thank you for the blessings you pour out in my life and for the good life you promise me. Thank you for forgiving me of my sins and giving me a brand-new start. Help me seek your guidance and hear your voice so that I move where you want me. I choose to follow your leading so that I can live out the purpose you have for me.
Amen
