Restore: East Africa Crisis Appeal – one year on

Tearfund is working with local partners in East Africa to bring emergency food assistance to those who have been left with nothing to eat, after a widespread drought left 23 million people on the brink of starvation.

Dorcas, from Ethiopia, is 70 years old and has been unable to produce enough food for her family due to the drought. “I don’t forget those three days where we went to bed without any food for the whole day.”

It was at that time Dorcas started receiving support – maize, beans and vegetable oil – from one of Tearfund’s partners. “Thank God! We are now having three meals a day. This support has saved our lives! God bless you!”

Dear Lord, thank you that we all have a part to play in the restoration of your world. This Lent, help us to recognize opportunities we have been given to bring hope to those around us who are in need. We lift up to you all who are suffering as a result of the food crisis in East Africa. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
