Devotions From The Farmhouse

DAY 5 OF 5

Don’t Miss the Moments

There’s a beauty to farm life if one slows down long enough to enjoy it. A simple joy lies in watching the changes in the fields. From covered in snow in the winter, to those moments weeks later when the dirt is turned over ready for a new crop. There’s the sweet satisfaction of those first tender green shoots popping from the ground, and then watching over the next few months as squash, broccoli, green beans, tomatoes, and corn become ready for the family dinner table. There’s the delight in spending time in the fields with your family. Working side by side. Teaching the little ones the ins and outs of life on the farm, and skills that have often been passed down for generations. What could be more peaceful than sitting beside the creek listening to the bubbling water or watching your cows as they munch grass in the pasture? Or to sit on a hillside enjoying the view as a tractor or baler makes its way through the fields? Those are priceless moments that we often miss in the busyness of our days as we rush from one thing to the next. The same is often true of our moments with God. He’s provided us with opportunities to spend time with him as he shares his heart and wisdom with us—but we’re usually too busy. It’s those “be still” moments when we slow down when we truly enjoy the farm, and it’s those “be still” moments with him when we hear his whispers to our hearts and enjoy the beauty of time spent with him.

Lord, help me to slow down so I don’t miss the moments with you.

About this Plan

Devotions From The Farmhouse

This 5-day devotional will encourage you—as you spend time observing the cows, sheep, horses, wheat, carrots, potatoes, flowers, trees, birds, sky, or sun—to remember to thank the Creator who made everything and put it in its place. Be encouraged as you spend time alone with God. May his peace and joy refresh you like cool water on a hot summer day.
