Kingdom Rules (Part 2) - Disciple Makers Series #5Mostră
Adultery; Watch Your Eyes
Watch your eyes. It is an entryway to the heart. Sexual sin does not just happen – it starts in the heart, but the pathways of the eyes and touch take us there. Jesus is clear here. Guard your heart carefully. Does blinding our eyes or cutting off our hands stop the heart from sinning? No, that is not what Jesus is requiring. Instead, He is saying this –
take active steps to protect your heart from sexual sin. How do I do it? First, I see them as God’s daughters – He loves His daughters and will protect them. Second, Jesus treated them as special and died for them – be like Jesus and treat them with the same honor. Third, I guard my eyes and thoughts carefully - I am careful what I put before my eyes and
into my mind. If my mind wanders, I stop it and thank God for the women I love – my mom, my wife, my sisters, my daughter. I bless them and ask God to make them a great blessing to others. Now my heart is seeing them the way God sees them. Finally, be accountable to someone. Men, have another man that will ask you the tough questions about
this. Women, have a woman evaluate what you say, what your clothing says to men. Let God’s light shine – it protects us.
Some people think it is the woman’s responsibility to keep men from lusting after them. Stop thinking that it is other people’s responsibility to keep me from sinning – it is my choice and my responsibility. If they do things wrong, they will be responsible before God for their actions. I am responsible for my thoughts, the responses of my heart and my actions.
Time to pray
Father, for me and other men, this is a daily challenge. We are affected by what we see and it is easy to go quickly from observing to lust. So today, help me keep my eyes under guard. Whatever I see, help me see it through Your eyes. I want to see hurting, vulnerable women as You see them. I do not want to allow my eyes to miss the special beauty that You created in them. They are special because You created them, love them, died for them, have a destiny for them and will use them to release Your blessing on my world. I want to bless them the same way. I ask this in Jesus’ name Amen.
